The EUPATI National Platform (ENP) in Portugal brings together patient, academic and industry representatives who want to work in partnership to promote patient education and enhance patient involvement in the Spanish medicines research and development (R&D) process.
The National Platform is led by an Executive Committee – or a National Team – which shares information among members and grows the discussion around national patient involvement issues and opportunities. The Team meets regularly and provides ongoing management and administrative support to the Platform.

Our work to date
In 2014 the EUPATI launched the first of two specialized training issues lasting 14 months for 100 patients, the Patient Expert Training Course. Elsa Mateus, the President of the Portuguese League Against Rheumatic Diseases and Pedro Montellano, of GAMIAN EUROPE, were selected for the 1st edition of the training course of EUPATI. In 2015 they began to work together to create a national EUPATI platform, and on the 30th of October, presented the Communication “EUPATI: Because the knowledge of patients counts” at the 18th Forum of Support for Rheumatic Patients, under the topic of «Patient Centricity». Two other representatives of Portuguese patients - Inês Alves, from ANDO Portugal and Manuel Mateus, from GAT - joined the 2nd edition of the Patient Expert Training Course, which began in September 2015.
The relevance of the EUPATI project and the recognized need to implement a national platform to promote public knowledge about the process of research and medicines development, with objective, reliable and updated information and that could create skills and expert skills among patients and public, facilitating the involvement of patients in research and development (R&D), mobilized the interest of several partners.
On the 16th June 2016 was held the first working meeting of our NLT with all the members that form EUPATI Portugal:
Our future plans
By the end of 2016 we will have established a legal non-profit organisation EUPATI Portugal and a national website for our ENP will be on line until the end of January 2017.
Combining the participation of representatives of patients, academia, industry and other partners to intervene and with interest in the process of research and development of medicines, EUPATI Portugal will aim to promote the empowerment and involvement of citizens and patients in these processes.
Oriented to the dissemination of credible and accessible information on therapeutic innovation, EUPATI Portugal will develop actions for the general public, to patients and to all relevant sectors.
